Taking a Boat Tour of the Ionian Coast

It's one thing to take in the Ionian coast from underneath an ombrellone at a lido in Soverato. It's another thing to see it from the sea itself!

The Boats

At Go Go Calabria, we make it a point to vet all the services we offer our guests by experiencing them firsthand. So trust me when I tell you that the boat tour of the Ionian Coast that we arrange for you is the best on the Ionian coast!

The boat operator offers more than a dozen boats in various styles that can be rented to drive yourself if you have a license, or hired with a driver as part of a tour.

The History

While you're taking in the glorious Calabrian sun and being blessed by the seaspray, you may not realize how close to history you are. As you pass Copanello Beach, you are near the Vasche di Cassiodoro. These pools were built to breed fish by Cassiodorus, a Roman senator who, after retiring, founded the monastery Vivarium here in Calabria in 544 AD.

You'll also pass the Grotta di San Gregorio, right around the corner from Copanello Beach. You can reach this cave by swimming or walking over the rocks to reach it from the main beach. Part of this cave was built by Italian soldiers during World War I as a way to prevent the enemy from undermining the railway tunnel.

Why is it named after San Gregorio? Legend has it that his bones were transported there in an urn by angels! You decide if it's true or not.

The Water

Along the tour, your skipper will stop the boat so you can enjoy a cool swim in the sea. Bring your snorkel and you might see fish or even seahorses, as the stretch of sea in front of Soverato is the Baia dell'Ippocampo (Bay of Seahorses).

The Fun

When you're on a boat in the Ionian Sea, you have no worries. Nothing to do except relax...maybe dance with your friends (or fight over the playlist)...and enjoy that dolce vita we're all seeking.

The Aperitivo

What better end to a lazy summer afternoon spent lounging at sea than with an aperitivo looking out at the water? We can organize it!

Enjoy a Spritz Aperol and snacks while you review your thousands of gorgeous pictures and videos from your boat tour of the Ionian Coast.
