Discover the Charm of Tropea

Search for where to go in Calabria, and you'll find dozens of results for the seaside town of Tropea, and for good reason. This quaint locale offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, encouraging visitors to embrace the essence of il dolce far niente - simply being and savoring the present moment.

Embracing Il Dolce Far Niente

Il dolce far niente is an Italian concept that embodies the art of slowing down and relishing life without a tightly packed agenda. Tropea, with its serene ambiance, provides an ideal setting to practice this delightful philosophy.

While here, you can explore notable sights such as Santa Maria dell’Isola, a charming church perched on a rocky outcrop by the sea. A moderate climb with rewarding views awaits, showcasing the aqua waters below. Afterward, the rest of the day can be spent lounging on the beach and basking in the crystal-clear waters below.

Staircases and Scenic Strolls

Tropea is perched atop cliffs overlooking the sea, and to access the beach, you've got to climb around 200 stairs. Consider it a workout for all the pasta you're eating on your trip!

When you tire of the beaches below (if that's possible), the town of Tropea is a pleasure to explore, with its charming cobblestone streets leading to both the bustling tourist areas and peaceful, shaded neighborhoods.

Exploring Nearby Pizzo

A short 15-minute train ride north takes you to Pizzo, another enchanting beach town and the birthplace of the ice cream treat tartufo. After wandering the picturesque streets, stop in the famous Belvedere Antica Gelateria, which has been serving this ice cream delicacy since 1901.

Pizzo is relatively less crowded in June, and its Chiesa di Pedigrotta, a church carved into the rock by the sea filled with unique stone statues, is a remarkable sight.

A Farewell to Tropea

On your final day in Tropea, a boat and snorkeling tour provide an excellent way to bid adieu to this gem of Calabria. The clear, azure waters offer an exciting snorkeling experience, showcasing fish and captivating rock formations. You can also explore underwater caves called grotto, which offer a unique glimpse of the coast's natural beauty.

Arrivederci, Tropea--a perfect blend of tranquility and adventure, as well as lasting memories of a delightful summer in Italy.
